Volunteer Spotlight: Jacob Kuiper

The Indiana Region of the American Red Cross would not be able to do what it does for the community without our wonderful volunteers. On this #ThankfulTuesday, we are shining the light on Jacob Kuiper, who has been volunteering since March of 2022! Jacob is a Disaster Action Team Member and Recruitment Volunteer.

Jacob joined the Red Cross to make a difference in his community after seeing the humanitarian needs in his own backyard and around the world. He figured he could see what he could do locally to support his community while helping the Red Cross make an impact globally.

This motivated Jacob to join the Red Cross as a Disaster Action Team Member and help those in need during and after a disaster.

His favorite aspect of volunteering is getting the chance to meet new people like himself, who “want to do all the good they can.” Volunteering with the Red Cross has also impacted the lives of the people all around him; he’s had the chance to share his experiences with them, and ultimately, reach out to more potential volunteers. Jacob also says volunteering has also improved his mental health.

“The Red Cross empowered me to think ahead and have hope,” Jacob said. “Volunteering gave me a purpose and inspired me to get reenrolled in college and create a plan to work for the Red Cross one day as a staff member.”
