Volunteer Spotlight: David Mangia

The Indiana Region of the American Red Cross would not be able to do what it does for the community without our wonderful volunteers. On this #ThankfulTuesday, we are shining the light on David Mangia, who has been a Red Crosser since August of 2017! David is a Southwest Community Volunteer Lead and Blood Donor Ambassador.

David’s Red Cross story began before he signed on as a volunteer. His employer notified him and other associates that the Red Cross needed volunteers for a telethon. That one telethon was merely the beginning of his journey, as he volunteered for several more after.

During that time, David became acquainted with former Executive Director Theo Boots of the American Red Cross – Indiana Region, Southwest Chapter. When Theo found out about the work David did for the Red Cross, she asked why he hadn’t yet signed up as a volunteer. Her question made him realize that he did want to volunteer for the Red Cross. What started out as a small telethon gig turned into a five-year strong volunteer position!

David enjoys helping others, and credits it to being one of his favorite aspects of volunteering. He acknowledges working in the Services to the Armed Forces as a passion of his, as the Red Cross was initially founded to assist with the military. He is also a Blood Donor Ambassador, and helps to emphasize the life-changing impact of blood donations.

“The Lord has blessed me beyond my wildest dreams,” he says, “so I want to give back some of my blessings to those in need.”

David is also our Community Outreach Coordinator! Outreach activities consists of tabling and attendance at events to support Red Cross Executive Directors to build community presence! If you are interested in volunteering, sign up today at redcross.org/volunteer.
