Volunteer Spotlight: “Manju” – Srimanjunath Thangavel

The Indiana Region of the American Red Cross would not be able to do what it does for the community without our wonderful volunteers. On the first Tuesday of February, we launched a new initiative in 2022. Every Tuesday, we will shine the light on a wonderful volunteer. On this Thankful Tuesday, we want to recognize “Manju” – Srimanjunath Thangavel, who currently serves as a Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteer. We asked him a few questions to help share his Red Cross story.

When did you become a volunteer with the Red Cross?

I registered myself as a Red Cross volunteer in September 2021.

Why did you become a Red Crosser?

I have always wanted to give back to my community and help people in need. As an individual, I have done some volunteering work whenever possible. When I decided to register myself as a volunteer in an organization, I wanted to be part of the Red Cross as I have learned about the great humanitarian services done by Red Cross all over the world.

What is your favorite aspect of volunteering?

Volunteering brings me satisfaction of doing my part in helping and building a caring society. It also gives me an opportunity to meet different people and gather real life experiences.

How has your experience impacted you and others?

It motivates me to go out of my comfort zone, work with different people for a common objective. My family and friends appreciate my volunteering efforts. Also, volunteer essential trainings provided by Red Cross are useful for being prepared for emergency situations.
