Volunteer Spotlight: Jordan Whitt

The Indiana Region of the American Red Cross would not be able to do what it does for the community without our wonderful volunteers. On this #ThankfulTuesday, we are shining the light on Jordan Whitt, who has been a volunteer since January of 2011. He is currently serving as a Media Relations and Photographer Team Member.

Jordan’s Red Cross journey started with his father, a Decatur Township volunteer firefighter and EMT. Growing up with the knowledge and passion for emergency response, he eventually joined the fire department Cadet program at 13 and earned both his EMT and firefighter certifications by the age of 18.

While pursuing his lifelong goal of becoming a career firefighter, Jordan was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation at the age of 23, and unfortunately, had to cut his firefighting journey short. However, he found that volunteering with the Red Cross helped to fill the need in his life to assist those in need.

“It’s great to be part of an organization that has such a large disaster relief footprint that makes a tangible impact in lives all over the world”, said Jordan.

As for Jordan’s favorite aspect of volunteering, he says it’s hard for him to choose just one! Through his experience, he’s served as the media relations lead for multiple regional incidents, such as the Richmond Hills explosion, and has had the opportunity to attend and document incredible events as a photographer.

Jordan credits being a Red Crosser for his current career path, and ever-expanding portfolio. Thanks to his involvement with and dedication to the Red Cross, his many incredible endeavors have included serving as part of the Indiana Homeland Security’s Joint Information Center, and partnering with FEMA during state-wide disasters and national military exercises.
